Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda Announces He's Running For President

After Kanye West declared he was running for president over the weekend, Mike Shinoda announced his own presidential bid. Okay, not really — it was clearly a joke — but Shinoda 2020 has a nice ring to it.

On Sunday (July 5), the Linkin Park cofounder tweeted the following:

"I, too am running for president*

*have new music out"

This sparked the hashtag #Shinoda2020 and was a topic of conversation during the singer/producer's latest Twitch session on Monday (July 6).

“I don’t know who my running mate is; I don’t really have a platform," he told fans with a laugh. "Can I run as a Republican? I like that. I’m gonna run as a Republican … If you’re a Republican in this chat, I want you to write me in on your ballot. Just write me in."

The new music Shinoda's referencing is Dropped Frames Volume 1 — an instrumental album composed of songs created during his daily Twitch livestreams that includes the fan-assisted "Open Door."

Aside from "Open Door," two other tracks — "Super Galaxtica" and "Osiris" — are available now. The full album drops on Friday (July 10).
