Maya Angelou Will Be The First Black Woman On A Quarter

The late poet and Civil Rights Activist Maya Angelou will be the first black woman to appear on a U.S. quarter.

According to The U.S. Mint the quarter went into circulation Monday and will be part of the American Women Quarters Program, which feature prominent women in U.S. history.

There will be other quarters rolled out later this year and the coins will be put into circulation for the next four years, through 2025.
