After being told that they had to move out Wednesday evening, more than 80 people including several families will be allowed to stay at a south suburban motel.
Occupants of the Travel Lodge in Matteson were told they had to leave because fire alarms and the sprinkler system at the building were not functioning properly. Many of the residents had nowhere to go because some are homeless, live in their cars or their homes are uninhabitable. Travel Lodge is part of a residence assistance program.
Crews were able to inspect and repair that safety issue and the residents are now able to stay. This is good news. Very good news.
