Starting today, motorists in Syracuse and DeWitt will have to navigate around a new construction project on Interstate 690. The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced that I-690 westbound between Exit 17 (Bridge Street) and Exit 15 (Milder Avenue) will be reduced to one lane. Similarly, I-690 eastbound will be reduced to one lane between Exits 16S-16N-17 (Thompson Road, Bridge Street, and East Syracuse) and the on-ramp to Interstate 481 northbound.
The lane closures, which are due to bridge inspection work, will be in effect each weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until November 25, according to the Syracuse.com and the DOT. Detours will be posted in the area to guide motorists around the construction zones.
The DOT has urged motorists to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones, reminding them that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
