Construction on Interstate 81 in Syracuse will lead to the closure of the Sunset Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-81. The New York State Department of Transportation announced that the ramp will be closed on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until at least Friday (February 7). This closure is part of the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project, specifically for the removal of the Bear Street bridge abutment and retaining wall.
Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour, which directs traffic north on Sunset Avenue, east on Bear Street, and north on Lodi Street to reach I-81 northbound. The construction schedule is weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution in work zones, as fines are doubled for speeding. The project is part of a broader effort to improve the I-81 corridor in Syracuse. For more information, visit the New York State Department of Transportation website.
