Syracuse is bracing for more severe winter weather as a multi-day storm continues to impact the area. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerously low wind chills through Wednesday (February 19). Wind chills could drop to 20 degrees below zero, with gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour, creating hazardous conditions.

The storm has already brought significant snowfall, with more than two feet expected in some areas. According to the National Weather Service, intense lake effect snow bands will continue to affect Central New York, particularly in the Mohawk Valley and Oswego County. Snowfall rates could reach one to three inches per hour, making travel extremely dangerous.

In addition to the snow, ice accumulation is a concern, especially in Oneida County, where a quarter-inch of ice is forecast. This could lead to treacherous driving conditions and power outages. The National Weather Service advises against travel due to the risk of ice-covered roads and sidewalks.

The storm is expected to bring some of the coldest temperatures of the winter, with highs only reaching the teens and wind chills well below zero. The weather is expected to improve slightly by Wednesday, with snow showers tapering off and winds decreasing.
