A KLM flight From Amsterdam to the Caribbean was canceled after passengers spotted a rat running through the cabin. The incident occurred while the plane was en route to Aruba, with plans to continue to the island of Bonaire. Passengers noticed the rodent scurrying along curtain rails and jumping into overhead bins, causing concern among travelers.

KLM spokespersons described the situation as a "very exceptional incident," emphasizing the airline's commitment to passenger safety. The flight landed safely in Aruba, but the flight to Bonaire was canceled to allow for a thorough cleaning of the aircraft. Passengers affected by the cancellation received overnight accommodations and compensation from the airline.

The rat's presence posed potential health risks, as rodents can spread diseases such as leptospirosis and salmonellosis. Additionally, rats can damage aircraft systems by chewing through wires, leading to possible short circuits or system failures. As a precaution, the plane remained grounded until it was inspected and cleared for further flights.

Despite the disruption, passengers remained calm, and the crew ensured the rat did not come near food. The incident is not the first of its kind, as other flights have also faced unexpected delays due to stowaway rodents. KLM continues to investigate how the rat boarded the plane, aiming to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
