New York has been named the second "Grinchiest" state in the United States this Christmas season, according to a recent analysis by Innerbody Research. The study examined search trends and the popularity of holiday activities to determine which states are most festive and which lack holiday spirit. Washington, DC, took the top spot as the "Grinchiest," followed by New York, Hawaii, Nevada, and Maryland.

Despite being home to iconic holiday attractions like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, New York's overall holiday spirit seems to be lacking. The state is known for its festive atmosphere, especially in New York City, which hosts the Radio City Rockettes and the famous FAO Schwarz toy store. However, Innerbody points out that despite New York's trying to get more into the festive spirit this year, it wasn't enough to overcome its "Grinchy" ranking.

In a separate study by WalletHub, New York City did not make the top ten list of best cities for Christmas, despite scoring high in categories like toy shops and Christmas tree farms per capita. The city ranked poorly in terms of cost and observance, which contributed to its lower overall ranking. According to WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo, inflation has made Christmas celebrations more expensive, affecting New York's affordability during the holiday season.

While New York might not top the festive list, there are still plenty of holiday attractions to enjoy across the state, including events in the Hudson Valley. Locals remain hopeful that New York can boost its holiday spirit in the coming years.
