Syracuse is preparing for the major winter storm that expected to bring up to 18 inches of snow starting Sunday (January 25). The city's Department of Public Works (DPW) is gearing up to clear roads, with a focus on high-volume roads, emergency routes, and hills to ensure access for emergency vehicles. Neighborhood streets will be plowed once major routes are cleared and snowfall has subsided, as reported by Syracuse.com.

Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens issued a snow safety alert, urging residents to prepare for hazardous conditions. Mayor Owens emphasized the importance of following odd-even parking regulations and clearing sidewalks and fire hydrants. "Our DPW crews will be working around the clock to make sure roadways remain clear and safe for travel," she stated.

The city has identified priority streets for focused parking enforcement, especially in neighborhoods with narrow roadways. Police will ticket and tow vehicles that violate parking rules. Residents can track plow progress using the city's live snow plow map and submit snow-related concerns via the SYRCityline app or by calling 315-448-CITY (2489). In case of emergencies, residents should call 911.

Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a State of Emergency for New York State, highlighting the severity of the storm. Residents are advised to limit travel and stay informed about the latest weather updates.
